Murtha Fails to Stop
Local Veterans & VFTT Press Conference
BootMurtha release, Aug. 3, 2006
Date announced for Johnstown Rally: Sunday, Oct.
1
Johnstown,
PA... Speaking to a large contingency of press today, retired Navy
SEAL CAPT Larry Bailey said, "Murtha thinks that's a rally. Come back
October 1st, and I'll show you a rally"
Bailey, a decorated Vietnam war veteran and President of Vets For The
Truth, made his comment at a press conference in Johnstown, PA, while
Rep. John Murtha tried to hold his own rally nearby.
Local veterans and Bailey were met by FoxNews, the Boston Globe, the
Philadelphia Inquirer, three local TV stations and local newspapers.
A group of local vets are organizing an Oct. 1st rally in Johnstown
and have welcomed VFTT's sponsorship of the event. Veterans and
outraged citizens from all over the nation are expected to attend the
Rally to show their disdain for Congressman Murtha's policies.
Addressing accusations from the Murtha rally that they were nothing
but a bunch of "carpetbaggers" and "swift boaters," local veteran Mark
Parker, Waynesburg, PA, said, "That's not true. We're not the Swift
Boat Veterans. They are an entirely separate group, but thanks for the
compliment. We're local veterans, local guys."
Murtha brought in former Sen. Max Cleland (D-GA) to boost his rally
and help bring media attention to counter the presence of VFTT in his
District. Murtha was capable of rallying approximately 125 people for
the counter demonstration.
Local District veterans and VFTT held the press conference to announce
their firm opposition to Congressman Murtha and to make voters aware
of the launch of Operation Street Corner within District 12. The press
conference also gave details for the Oct. 1 rally.
Regarding Operation Street Corner, VFTT informed the press that
interested citizens of District 12 could go to
www.bootmurtha.com
and find printable materials at the "Operation
Street Corner" hotlink and flyers online about Murtha. These
materials are available for individuals to make their own "operation
street corner" display. (See
OSC display example)
CAPT Larry Bailey created Operation Street
Corner during the 2004 Kerry Lied campaign conducted by Vietnam Vets
for the Truth.
Bailey is now president of a project
entitled, "Operation Boot Murtha," under the auspices of
Iowa Presidential Watch PAC's
committee Vets For The Truth.
Bailey said, "This is a very empowering way
to let ordinary citizens politically express themselves and
help to defeat Murtha, who has betrayed America's military personnel
and discarded the God-fearing patriotic family values of the voters of
his District."
Regarding Murtha's counter demonstration efforts to silence the local
veterans' press conference, Johnstown resident Craig Minnick (an Iraq
war veteran and Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves) said, "This
is not surprising. I have called time and time again to Congressman
Murtha's office and they have refused to listen to me, even though I
am one of Rep. Murtha's constituents. So, today's rude behavior by
Murtha's gang was not unexpected. However, he cannot stop our campaign
from informing the public of his dereliction of duty in supporting
America's troops."
The
effect of Murtha's counter rally was to bring greater attention to the
local veterans' press conference, and they failed to silence the
message that John Murtha is anti-military, anti-family, anti-border
security, and wrong for PA's District 12.

MAKES
DRUDGE
REPORT!!!
Headline in Philadelphia Inquirer:
A
two-front war for Murtha
He's under attack by those livid about his Iraq criticism
Rep. John Murtha's (D-PA) national campaign to become Majority Leader
has ticked off patriots all across America. It has also embroiled him
in legal troubles not known since his ABSCAM days.
Reporter Tom Infield of the
Philadelphia Inquirer reports on Murtha's two front war. The
truth is that Murtha faces a four front war. First is that his
candidacy is being challenged by Republican Diana Irey who has gained
national Republican support. Second is an attack by veterans who see
Murtha as, at best, derelict in his duties to serve and protect
America's military interests. Third is a lawsuit filed Aug 2nd in
federal court in Washington in which a 26-year-old Marine sergeant
contends that Murtha defamed him and his Marines unit. Fourth is the
fact that if and when a trial is conducted against soldiers regarding
an incident in Haditha the defense council has already promised to
call Rep. Murtha to the stand to testify under oath.
Infield's article for the Philly Inquirer covers Murtha's statement
that, "They [the Marines in Haditha] killed innocent civilians in cold
blood."
The article begins with the recent lawsuit:
In a prepared statement on the lawsuit, he commented: "I don't
blame the staff sergeant for lashing out. When I spoke up about
Haditha, my intention was to draw attention to the horrendous pressure
put on our troops in Iraq and to the cover-up of the incident."
Among other things, the lawsuit seeks to smoke out the military
officials who gave him the information on which he based his charge
that Marines had killed innocent civilians.
Asked about this in the interview, Murtha said the information came
from Gen. Michael Hagee, the commandant of the Marine Corps, in a
one-on-one conversation the day before Hagee made a trip to Iraq.
Hagee did not use the term "in cold blood," he added.
Col. Dave Lapan, a Marine spokesman, disputed Murtha's account.
He said the commandant did brief Murtha about the Haditha incident.
But he said that was on May 24, a week after Murtha made his public
comment. The next day, May 25, Hagee left for Iraq, he said.
Included in the article are comments from BootMurtha's CAPT Larry
Bailey, President of Vets For The Truth; and Roger Hughes, Chairman of
the Iowa Presidential Watch PAC.
