Marine Online Poll:
Murtha a disgrace
LeatherNeck.com, an online Marine Corp community for USMC veterans,
has a John Murtha poll [LINK]
with some telling results. The poll asks the question, "What do you
think of John Murtha?" Here are the results:
He is a traitor... 13.62%
He is a good leader... 9.63%
He is an EX-Marine... 11.96%
He is a disgrace... 64.78%
Here are some of the comments posted, following the poll:
-
Murtha is pro military? I am reminded of the old saying, "With
friends like him, we don't need any enemies."
-
He is a disgrace... We all have a right to
our opinions, but to express your opinion before a full report is
out is wrong...
-
Murtha is a DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PERIOD...........!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is also a liar, a loudmouth, a
fatarse, a pseudo-intellectual, a medical experiment in the making,
etc.
-
Disgrace....why would you pass judgment on your fellow Marines and
condemn them in the media just to make a name for yourself????
-
I am not passing judgment, I am relating what has been publicized in
the press and on the news media. Anyone who would toss our military
to the dogs like ms Murtha has is not a "fellow Marine"!!!!! I ain't
making a name for nobody, I'm just stating the facts. ms Murtha is a
moron who happened to serve in the armed forces of the United States
and that military service was served in the U. S. Marine Corps. I
would question why one would defend ms Murtha given his stance on
Iraq and our military!!!!!!!!!! Every time he gets in front of the
media, he shows his lack of intelligence and common sense!!
-
He is a disgrace border-lining traitor. The traitors of this country
in my humble opinion former pres. Jimmy Carter, former pres.
Clinton, former v.pres. Al Gore. These men have gone over seas to
degrade the U.S. and get paid to do so, then come back and try and
foul up our already hurting gov. The democratic leadership is flip
floppy at best. Vote for one thing when it best suits them then vote
another way when it doesn't.
-
Anytime I hear the name "Murtha", I want to throw up!
-
“Murtha, a pro-military Democrat” is this not an oxy-moron? Please,
the next time you vote, REMEMBER the “Carter Years”. All are not
what and/or who they seem!!!! It is hard to be friendly when you are
being shot at (or BOMBED!)
-
I think Murtha is an absolute azzhole, any one know how to remove
the title of United States Marine after you earn it? I wish you
could, just for not holding up moral standards, but, [that's] just
my $0.03 worth...
-
Sure wish we as Marines could send these posts to him so he could
see what real Marines think of him.
-
Murtha of all people must understand that when you engage in a war,
if you walk away from that war before you have won -- then you have
lost the war. We are engaged in a war. We are more than capable of
winning the war. But, Murtha and his ilk want to cut and run. We
cannot do that unless we are willing to fight the battle in North
America. Whatever we may believe about our enemies, they are
committed mother ****ers, that will consider our withdrawal as a
sign of weakness. No matter what our personal opinion of getting
into the war is, we have to win the ****er now. Perhaps we can
forgive civilians who do not know any better. But, Murtha is a
Marine, he knows all of this. Therefore he is a not only a disgrace.
He is a ****ing disgrace ... and perhaps a traitor.
-
There comes a time in every man's life
when he must make a choice between power and doing what you know is
right. He has reached that point and I think made the wrong
decision.
-
It's important to finish well. A man can do wonderful things in his
life, but it's for naught if he makes his life a scandal at the end.
John Murtha has had a life worth living - he needs to let politics
go and not stumble now. But he probably won't, since power is the
ultimate aphrodisiac.
-
IMHO.......Murtha is in the same class as FONDA and KERRY...
-
He's a disgrace. One gray hair short of
being a traitor.
-
Murtha is just like one of my senators Chuck Hagel. He will say or
do anything to get in front of a camera. Hagel is a Vietnam vet as
am I but he still votes against my interests more than he votes for
them. I think once you get into politics the weak-minded lose their
way.
-
Murtha represents all I despise about American politics...he is a
disgrace.
-
Murtha is trying to disprove the old saying that there's no such
thing as an Ex-Marine. He may have had the Eagle, Globe and Anchor
tatooed on his heart like many of us, but it seems he's had it
surgically removed. I'd be afraid to have him watching my back - at
one time he may have been the real deal, but I'm afraid he'd bug out
when it got hot.
-
No Marine would ever degrade their fellow Marines or America like he
has. Not in war. Not in peace
-
I
became a Marine to help ensure that, among other things, people have
the right to protest against the actions of their government. Even
when I and perhaps a majority of people disagree with their point of
view. I don't think that protesting is tantamount to treason. On the
other hand, when politicians and other leaders cynically use service
men and women (including our brother and sister Marines) to forward
their agenda, and when they destroy the lives of the same to forward
their agenda, I take strong exception. That activity is traitorous
because it is destructive to our way of life. The American way can
stand debate and protest. I cannot stand for deception and for want
of a better word -- evil. And, Murtha is an evil bastard because his
actions are that of an evil bastard.
Rep. John Kline apologizes
At least one lawmaker understands that it is wrong to convict Marines
of crimes before they have been accused, arrested and tried. The
Washington Post offers this report:
[EXCERPT:]
Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.) issued the apology as part of an
agreement with lawyers for Marine Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich, who
alleged that Kline had damaged Wuterich's reputation.
Wuterich, through his lawyers, has denied any wrongdoing in the
Haditha case. None of the Marines involved has been charged.
Wuterich took the unusual step earlier this month of filing a
federal lawsuit against Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), alleging that
statements Murtha made about the Haditha deaths were libelous. Murtha
said after the lawsuit was filed that he did not mean to prejudge
Wuterich, but the representative has not responded to a settlement
offer that seeks a similar public apology, according to Wuterich's
attorneys, Mark S. Zaid and Neal A. Puckett. The lawyers set last
Friday as a deadline for Murtha's response.
Wuterich had threatened to sue Kline as well. But Zaid said
yesterday that Kline responded to a settlement request within an hour
of its arrival Aug. 4. Kline wrote that news outlets used incomplete
statements that gave the false impression that he had concluded the
Marines broke the law.

'Former SEAL wages campaign to defeat Murtha'
ArmyTimes.com has a great article about Larry Bailey, President of
Vets for the Truth, and our Boot Murtha endeavor:
[EXCERPT:]
Once together in uniform, still countrymen, but now on opposite
sides of the fence: a Marine Corps veteran and 32-year veteran of
Congress, and the retired Navy SEAL who wants to see him “redeployed”
from Washington, D.C., in this fall’s election.
All because of seven words in May, the ex-SEAL says.

Murtha's hometown editor
taking heat?
Johnstown
Tribune-Democrat
newspaper editor had this to 'say' in a recent editorial:
"FOR SOME, BALANCED COVERAGE ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH"
The Diana Irey campaign will hold a grand opening next week for its
local office in Richland Township, and The Tribune Democrat will
likely do a story.
And we’ll get criticized for doing so.
And the next time U.S. Rep. John Murtha makes an appearance to talk
about the war in Iraq – or anything else – we’ll likely report on it.
And we’ll get criticized.
Make no mistake, the Johnstown Democratic congressman has become a
polarizing figure. And his Republican opponent from Washington County
will be playing that up for all it’s worth.
Irey campaign aide Garrett Bowden said Irey is opening a local
office “in Cambria County because Cambria has the highest number of
registered voters in the 12th district.”
That makes perfect sense.
Having an office nearby also will put her a lot closer to the
action anytime someone schedules a rally to support Murtha – such as
happened twice last week in downtown Johnstown.
The anti-Murtha movement is gaining steam, and its counterparts
are, too.
The organization Veterans for the Truth has launched a campaign
dubbed “Boot Murtha,” complete with a Web site:
www.bootmurtha.com.
The group held a news conference recently in Johnstown to formally
announce its goal to “redeploy Murtha.”
That news conference sparked a counter rally by Murtha supporters
on the same street on the same day.
That happened even as Murtha was being sued in Washington, D.C. for
his comments about accusations that U.S. Marines killed Iraqi
civilians in cold blood last November.
All this with the general election still nearly three months away.
“Congressman Murtha is a soldier’s congressman,” state Sen. John
Wozniak, also a Johnstown Democrat, said during the pro-Murtha rally.
“It’s about politics. It’s about elections. It’s about smoke and
mirrors.”
Politics and elections have always been about smoke and mirrors.
And although Wozniak was referring to the anti-Murtha group, to hear a
politician admit as much was a revelation worth noting.
But here’s something that’s also worth noting: The Tribune
Democrat’s coverage of these recent events And its future coverage of
the Murtha-Irey race are about fairness – about balance.
This newspaper and its reporters are not pro-Murtha, even though
he’s based in the same city as the Tribune Democrat.
This newspaper and its reporters are not pro-Irey.
We do not, as they say, have a horse in this race. Or any race,
for that matter.
We will report on the movements and comments of both candidates as
much as we are able to do so. And we will cover the comments of their
respective critics, as they are deemed newsworthy.
No smoke and mirrors here, despite some folks’ fears.
We have been criticized by callers, in letters to the editor and in
online forums for being essentially Murtha’s public relations
department.
But the people who feel that way seem to think any coverage of
Murtha – including reports on his ongoing debate with President Bush
over the Iraq war – constitutes slanted or overblown reporting.
We have also been criticized for giving the Veterans for the Truth,
coverage comparable to the same day’s pro-Murtha rally.
But the real truth is, if the Veterans for the Truth hadn’t planned
a news conference, there would have been no Murtha rally.
One begat the other, and both were newsworthy. Simple as that –
regardless of whether the rally organizers could get more people out
than those holding the news conference.
In the end, what we owe our readers and the candidates is fairness.
And on November 7, we will fairly cover the results of this race –
whether the winner is the incumbent or the challenger.

Rep. McCaul points the finger at Murtha
From
MarineMomsOnline:
"Our Congressman, Michael McCaul (TX), [(bio,
official website]
delivered a message from us to Mr. Murtha on the House floor a few
weeks ago. I wish I knew how to get the video on here, but here is the
text. When he quoted Bill at the end, he was pointing directly at
Murtha. It probably didn't phase Murtha at all, but it sure made us
feel better. There was a huge picture of Byron in full gear with his
"warrior face" on an easel while Michael spoke.

Gold Star MOM
From Congressional Record
page H4074 June 15, 2006
 Mr.
McCaul of Texas- Mr. Speaker, September 11 changed our lives forever.
But the war on terror started long before that. The year 1979 changed
the world. When Iran took our embassy hostage, the seeds of Islamic
jihad were spread all over the Middle East.
These seeds planted hatred and
contempt for freedom in the souls of men like Osama bin Laden. In
1983, they murdered our marines in Beirut. In 1993, Ramzi Yousef and
his al Qaeda associates bombed the World Trade Center. They were
supposed to fall that day, but that day would come later.
They struck the Khobar Towers in 1996.
They bombed our embassies in Africa. They defeated us in Somalia. And
they deliberately attacked the USS Cole.
Each time we failed to respond. And
then came September 11. It was as if the United States was a sleeping
giant. And not until the bloodiest alarm of 9/11 did the giant finally
awake. America cannot afford to go back to sleep again.
We are fighting this war in distant
lands, and we are winning. Our struggle in Iraq and Afghanistan is the
great stand in this war on terror. The terrorists are there. Zarqawi
was there before, and we are there. And if we fail, the terrorists
will prevail just as they have over the last 30 years.
Behind me is a picture of Sergeant
Byron Norwood taken moments before he died for his country in this
global war on terror. In Fallujah, Sergeant Norwood helped save seven
of his fellow marines in a gun battle with insurgents and gave his own
life in the process. Simply put, Byron was a hero.
His story reminds me of the Bible
verse found in the Gospel of John: ``Greater love hath no man than
this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.''
Some say we should retreat in this war
on terror, but to them I say to cut and run now would not only be an
insult to those waging this liberating battle but a dishonor to those
like Byron who made the ultimate sacrifice because few causes are as
worthy, few prices are as great.
I received a letter from Byron's
mother expressing her concern that the American people would soon
forget about Byron and his sacrifice for freedom. To Janet and all of
the other Gold Star Mothers, I say we will never forget Byron, and we
will never forget about the other fallen heroes who paid the ultimate
sacrifice for freedom.
Whether it is Bill and Janet Norwood
or the wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital or the soldiers I met
with in Iraq, they all tell me the same thing, Congressman, finish the
job. And finish the job we will.
I would like to close with a message that Byron's father gave to me
to deliver to this Chamber. Byron's father said, "Byron understood the
meaning of Semper Fidelis, always faithful, as do all marines who were
there that day in Fallujah. He willingly gave his life, and others
were seriously and permanently wounded as they sacrificed for their
band of brothers and their country. He would never have traded honor
for political advantage.''
Murtha's legacy:
troop demoralization
During a press conference last May 17th, Congressman John Murtha
claimed Pentagon sources had briefed him about an incident involving a
Marine unit in Haditha, Iraq. Of those Marines he said, "...they
killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”
Murtha's 'cold blood' judgment was spoken prior to investigation,
charges or trial. Climbing over the backs of his fellow Marines in
pursuit of political power, Murtha remains indifferent to the impact
his words have on American troops fighting in Iraq... the very ones
Murtha fraudulently claims he is trying to help:
[EXCERPTS:]
HADITHA, Iraq - A young Marine wonders if his superiors will
support him if he shoots at perceived threats. An officer worries that
civilians look at his Marines with more suspicion. The proud colonel
acknowledges that his Corps has lost stature in the public's eyes.
Allegations that Marines deliberately killed 24 civilians —
including women and children — last November in this rebellious city
have prompted reactions ranging from shame and anger to disbelief
within the Marine Corps.

Boot Murtha exists to bring the consequences of Congressman John
Murtha's words – and deeds – squarely where they belong: on John
Murtha's head. We hold him accountable for demoralizing our troops.
This man is a fraud. He is NOT a friend of the military, NOT
representative of the values of his PA district, NOT fit to make
foreign policy decisions, NOT strong on defense.
And heads up, Nancy Pelosi: you can pretend John Murtha is 'Harry
Truman' till you're blue in the face, but the rest of America knows
Murtha ain't no Harry Truman. Harry Truman would have tossed Code
Pink's award in the garbage, and them along with it.
As another great president once said:
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage
morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be
arrested, exiled, or hanged."
-Abraham Lincoln
