Letter in
Murtha's hometown paper:
Murtha's theatrics harmful to soldiers
[NOTE: Congressman John Murtha's hometown newspaper, the Johnstown
Tribune-Democrat, has published the following letter to the editor in
their print edition for Sept.13th. As with many other such letters,
the newspaper has not included it on their website.]
I have choices to make on Election Day. Party politics aside, I'll
vote according to the information available to me – information that
appears to be in short supply as far as U.S. Rep. John Murtha's
military records and awards. He claims his combat record is equal to
that of his critics, so why doesn't he release that information?
I don't believe he is a patriot (someone who loves and supports his
country). In playing to the media, he declared those Marines at
Haditha guilty, without benefit of a trial. He had to realize the
impact that accusation would have on morale and, more importantly, on
the enemy. I imagine he's fairly popular in Iraq now.
Murtha apparently didn't realize the backlash these comments would
generate, so to recover, he shifted focus by stating, "It's time for a
new direction," and for once he told the truth.
It is time for a new direction. His irresponsible theatrics
demonstrate a lack of compassion for our troops. He caused division
when we need unity.
Murtha has lost touch with his constituency because it's not possible
to serve the voters and his own interests at the same time. He was
bound to fail and he did. He and his staff are shrewd and experienced
and they understand this debate goes deeper than a questionable
service record.
Whether for or against the war, we need to remember the sacrifices our
military has made and not judge without proper evidence.

Marine to Boot Murtha:
"Our wives and children are raising money to send to you"
Here is an email we received recently from a Marine who understands
that John Murtha is an All-American problem:
Hi Guys, I'am a fellow Marine in Connecticut. My men and I pray to
god Murtha is not reelected. We wish we could come down for the rally
but none of us could get out of our other commitments. We just heard
about you and what you guys are doing from listening to Shawn [Hannity]
on the radio the other day and we had to write and tell you how great
it feels that someone is standing up for what is right and exposing
Murtha for the a**hole he really is. We hope the voters get it and
boot him out of office. Our wives and children are raising money to
send to you (bake sales, koolaid stands, and raffles at the V.F.W.).
Anything else we could do, please let us know. God Bless America and
you folks down in PA.
Sincerely,

Anti-Murtha letter
in ValleyIndependent paper
Below is a letter to the editor published Sept. 14th in the Valley
Independent newspaper, which is in John Murtha's congressional
district 12. Unlike Murtha's hometown newspaper (the Johnstown
Tribune-Democrat), this paper does put anti-Murtha letters
online:

I am an active duty Air Force Officer, and have been with the
military for over 20 years, I just returned from Iraq.
I am not a Pennsylvania resident, but feel it is my duty to show
support for Diane Irey. As John Murtha has attacked all of us wearing
our country's uniform. John Murtha has not only broken the Marine Code
of Conduct and the UCMJ "conduct not becoming an officer" he has
attacked the military as a whole.
His words, statements and attitude toward all of us fighting to
protect him and the rest of America, is just as deadly and dangerous
as the enemy's IED, car bombs, and indirect fire (IDF).
It is evident through his own words and statements, he no longer
cares about us (military), and therefore it is time for him to leave
office. I completely support and highly encourage everyone (regardless
of party) to vote for Diane Irey.
John Murtha has removed this away from a party issue; he moved it
into "supporting your troops." I am sure Pennsylvania has their share
of sons, daughters, husbands, wives and other family members in harms
way around the world. You deserve the right to have all you elected
officials to support all of them.
If I could vote for Irey I would, but I am limited to this letter
and sending her my moral support.
