War Room with Quinn & Rose
Monday's interview with Larry Bailey, president, Vets for the
Truth
transcript, Sept. 18, 2006:
QUINN: From the War Room, it's the Morning Show... ACLU news is on the
way... 1-800- and I believe we have someone on the phone here, is that
it?
ROSE: Yes we do. We've got Larry with us. Larry is the one who's
putting this entire event together...
QUINN: Which event would that be?
ROSE: That would be the Boot Murtha Rally...
QUINN: Oh! Okay.
ROSE: In Cambtia County at the War Memorial Arena – right in
Johnstown. Hey, Larry, how are ya doing?
LARRY: I'm doing well, thank you Rose.
ROSE: Good! This is going to be really fun. You've got, first of all
you've got the country rock bank Whiskey Grin. They're going to be
performing.
QUINN: What a great name, Whiskey Grin.
ROSE: I like that... WHISKEY Grin.
LARRY: Pretty cool, isn't it?
ROSE: Yeah.
QUINN: Yeah.
ROSE: And then you've got David Beamer, who is the father of Todd
Beamer – who uttered the immortal words, "Let's roll!" as United
Flight 93 passengers fought the terrorists. And then there's Gregg
Garvey, who is a Gold Star father, and his son Justin died in Iraq...
he'll be talking. But also there's someone else too who survived the
World Trade Center attacks, is that right?
LARRY: It's correct. And he's even written a book about it. I don't
remember the title of the book, but 'miracle' is in the title.
ROSE: Okay. I know any survivor would... would certainly suggest that
it was a miracle.
LARRY: Yeah, really.
ROSE: So are you expecting a lot of people? Are you getting any phone
calls?
LARRY: Yeah, we're getting a lot of phone calls for a lot of
reservations. There's no way to anticipate how many are going to come,
but we put on a rally – with almost the same group of people as we got
together this year – a lot of us are Vietnam veterans. And we put on a
rally against Kerry called Kerry Lied Rally. It was focused on the
lies that Kerry told about his service and about our service in
Vietnam. And we had no idea until the last, I'm told, the day of the
event how many were going to show up. We were expecting anywhere from
several hundred to several thousand. We had 5,000 show up.
ROSE: Oh!
LARRY: Based on the level of interest – I'm comparing against the
level of interest then – I will guess we'll have a couple of thousand
people.
ROSE: I hope so. Everyone's pretty excited about this. It starts at 2
o-clock, Sunday, October 1st.
LARRY: Correct.
ROSE: And ah, I'm just excited. This is probably the first time I've
gone to anything like this.
LARRY: Well, you know what? You've neglected to point out that the
greatest drawing attraction that we have are... Quinn and Rose!
ROSE: Ya think so, yeah? (laughter)
LARRY: Yeah, I do! (laughter) We're tickled to death we're having you
folks there! Wonderful!
QUINN: We're looking forward... we figure maybe we might actually meet
somebody from our, ah...
ROSE: Johnstown! Yeah, listeners in Johnstown...
QUINN: I was hoping to meet somebody that was actually from the radio
station, WNGJ. We've never actually met anybody there.
ROSE: Oh!
QUINN: I've emailed a bunch of times but they never return my emails,
which is to their credit...
ROSE: Yeah – who would?!
QUINN: You know, obviously they must be classy people if they ignore
my emails.
(laughter)
ROSE: That's how we measure those kinds of things...
QUINN: That's right. That's why we want to stay there.
ROSE: I noticed, Larry, that you also have lots of hotel rooms that
are set-aside in several hotels. So if somebody needs a hotel
reservation, they can also talk to you too. You've got a website our
page. We don't have a phone number. But we do have a website listed on
our page.
LARRY: Yeah, and the website is.. that we have... the link is to
bootmurtha.com
ROSE: Okay, easy enough, huh.
QUINN: It's just Boot Murth.com? Or To Boot Murtha...
ROSE: No, it's just Boot Murtha.com.
QUINN: Okay. Boot Murtha.com
ROSE: And this is put on by... what's the name of your organization?
LARRY: Vets for the Truth – V F T T
ROSE: Vets for the Truth. We know you guys! We remember you from the
Kerry days.
LARRY: Yeah! In those days we referred to ourselves as Vietnam Vets
for Truth.
QUINN: Yeah, and then there was Swiftboat Vets for the Truth.
ROSE: That's right.
LARRY: But I would point out that... just to be fair... I love the
swiftboat guys. God bless John O'Neill and Admiral Hoffman and all
those fellas... and Joe Ponder. But we have no connection whatsoever
with Swiftboat Vets for Truth except that we have gladly appropriated
the term 'swiftboating.' We're gonna swiftboat the dickens out of John
Murtha.
ROSE: I hope so
QUINN: You know it's good that you mention that here. I'm gonna put
you on hold so you can hear the...
ROSE: Wait, wait... let me say one more thing here too. Just to remind
everybody. This is a family event. Bring the whole family out. It's
going to be a fun day. How long do you think this is going to go on?
LARRY: I would guess about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
ROSE: Okay
LARRY: And it's going to be inside, climate controlled, and we're
going to have seats throughout the arena.
ROSE: I didn't know that! I thought we were going to be outside!
That's even better yet!
LARRY: (laughing) Yeah, we've already got it hooked up!
ROSE: Ahhh, you're alright!
QUINN: Hold on here, Larry. I'm going to put you on hold so you can
hear this, alright?
LARRY: Okay
QUINN: Alright, this is Nancy Pelosi, talking about the controversy
about the Democrats not being security-minded versus the Republicans,
which by the way IS TRUE! But, here's what she had to say:
(audio of Nancy Pelosi) "We will not be swiftboated on the issue of
security. And that is what the Republicans are trying to do."
QUINN: Now, notice something here, okay? Notice they're trying to
change the definition of the word 'swiftboat' from telling the TRUTH,
to lying.
ROSE: Umm-hmm...
QUINN: So apparently the Swiftboat... uh, I'm not... the Swiftboat
vets haven't been heard from on the thing... but you can tell the
Democrats are scared to death of them. Which is why they're laying
down this pre-emptive attempt to salt the field so that the Swiftboat
vets can't plant any of the seeds of truth there this election year.
They're pretty paranoid about all this, ah, wouldn't ya think?
ROSE: Larry, let me ask you a question, too. I had a conversation with
someone about this, this past weekend over at... Where was I? I was at
La Prima down in the strip district. Okay? A guy who should know is
telling me that, "Oh, Diana's not going to win this by making the War
the issue, and the vets the issue." And I said, Oh my goodness, she is
indeed! And it's already, I think, on to her performance ... the
success of her performance as it is right now. I think this is a huge
issue, and I think that the people who ordinarily would not have even
considered voting for... a Republican... will be voting for Diana,
based almost entirely on this issue.
Now, she made fun of me and said, well, I'm in politics and she's on
the radio. As though I didn't know what I was talking about. But
Larry, would you agree with that?
LARRY: Well, you know, our issue is not the War. Our issue is what
John Murtha said about the U.S. Marines and one Navy Corpsman
regarding the Haditha incident in which civilians apparently died. And
on May 17th I could not have had less interest in who ran against whom
in the 12th district of Pennsylvania. But when he said that those
Marines, quote... "killed innocent civilians in cold blood,"
unquote... I called my buddies down in Florida who worked with me in
2004 against Kerry and said, "I don't like what he said." And they
said, "We don't like what he said either." So one of our guys bought
us airplane tickets and we... and a buddy of mine went to Pennsylvania
and decided that we were going to get involved. We ended up getting
involved in a way totally unconnected to Diana's campaign. But, even
though we have our own opinions about the War, what we have a problem
with is what Murtha is saying about our troops. He doesn't even
support the troops.
ROSE: And that's why you cannot get behind Murtha for this election.
LARRY: Correct. Absolutely.
ROSE: Alright, so you're not from Pennsylvania?
LARRY: No, I'm a Texas boy. I live here in North Carolina. Can't you
tell by the way I talk I'm not...
ROSE: That accent... wait a minute... where are you now?
LARRY: I'm in Chocowinity, North Carolina.
ROSE: Oh, gosh, you were calling us long distance! I'm so sorry,
because we would have been out of time earlier...
QUINN: Where is that in North Carolina?
LARRY: It's east of Raleigh about 120 miles... towards the Coast.
QUINN: Okay. Yeah.
ROSE: Awesome, awesome, awesome! This is going to be a great event!
Thank you so much for getting involved and helping us and helping us
get the truth out to people here in Johnstown and the surrounding
area.
QUINN: Appreciate it, Larry.
LARRY: You betcha!
PA District 12 anti-Murtha editorial:
"he needs to apologize"
[NOTE: The following is an editorial published Sept. 16th in
Somerset County's "Daily American"]
As a veteran who served my country discharged on March 20 1969, I have
to ask:
What the heck is (U.S. Rep. John) Murtha doing? Murtha has charged
many of our Military men and women in Iraq with criminal offenses,
even before a completed investigation Murtha has gone on TV stating
that our military personnel has killed innocent Civilians.
Before any charges by the military were made Murtha has charged them
with murder. Just happens that this is an election year, so I must ask
you as his constituents, if Murtha makes false innuendo charges of
murder against our military heroes, your sons and daughters before any
investigation has been completed, what will Murtha do to us behind our
backs?
In all such innuendos where Murtha claims that our heroes murdered a
civilian in Iraq after the investigation was completed, no criminal
offenses were committed. Congressman Murtha must issue an apology to
each and every son or daughter he falsely charged of horrendous
criminal offenses, Murtha must then go on TV and issue an apology to
all Americans for his heinous actions non becoming of a congressman,
and immediately resign.
In his campaigning for re-election Murtha has gone over the edge, he
has defamed and he has ruined the careers of those he made campaign
political false charges against, he has shamed America. We as
Americans deserve much better then one who will disgrace America by
charging our innocent finest with murder. I have joined bootMurtha.com
a group of veterans of both parties Democrat and Republican asking
Murtha to tell the truth, and in doing so as I placed out bootmurtha
signs along the roadway, Murtha's supporters removed them.
Can we afford this kind of representation?
